Unit 4: Decimals & Percents
Adding & Subtracting Decimals
When adding and subtracting decimals the most important thing to remember is to make sure that your place values are lined up!
You then add or subtract as you would with whole numbers.
And bring your decimal points straight down.

Multiplying Decimals
When multiplying decimals you multiply as though you are multiplying whole numbers.
YOUR PLACE VALUES DO NOT NEED TO BE LINED UP!
After you have found your product, count the total number of decimal places in the equation (both numbers! not just one)
Then, loop your decimal that many times from the right of the ones place.
Write your final answer.

Dividing a Decimals by Whole Number
- If the divisor is not a whole number, move decimal point to right to make it a whole number and move decimal point in dividend the same number of places.
- Divide as usual. ...
- Put decimal point directly above decimal point in the dividend.
Dividing a Decimal by a Decimal
- Move the decimal point in the divisor (the number outside the box) to the right to make it a whole number.
- Move the decimal point in the dividend (the number inside the box) to the right the same number of places as you did in the divisor.
-Divide as you would with whole numbers.
- Move the decimal point into the quotient ( your answer) directly above the decimal point you moved in the dividend.
